Equazen™ Fish Oil Supplements suitable for before, during and after pregnancy

NOT ALL FISH OILS ARE THE SAME.

Equazen products contain marine and botanical oils of the highest purity.
The word ‘natural’ is not used lightly in the processing and selection of oils; only pure natural form fatty acids are used. There are no synthetic chemicals, additives and NO ASPARTAME within the formulation. All variants of the fish oil supplements are gluten and casein free. Jewish and Moslem consumers need not be worried about the presence of any porcine elements. The bovine gelatine that is used for all of the capsules is specially approved as being halal and kosher.

The fish oils in all of equazen’s formulations are harvested from the flesh of fish; they are not ‘liver’ oils. Liver oils have greater concentrations of vitamin A. (high levels are not recommended during pregnancy).

Equazen oils are concentrated using molecular distillation, which effectively eliminates any pollutants and impurities. The oil is then chilled to allow any excess of saturated fats to be removed. The free fatty acids are then rebuilt into triglycerides the most bio-available form (the best form for absorption by the body). Not all fish oils are the same. Some other manufacturers supply ethyl ester concentrate oils and although these appear to be higher strength, it must be recognised that the absorption of these by the body is much lower (triglycerides are 2 – 3 times more readily absorbed). This could mean that ethyl ester oils could actually provide less ‘converted’ fatty acids within the body.

Even the cleanest ocean and most carefully farmed fish will contain some pollutants; therefore every batch of fish oil is independently tested to ensure full compliance with the stringent levels with regard to dioxins, PCBs, heavy metals (mercury), pesticides and other pollutants as laid down by the EC (European Community) and the WHO (World Health Organization).

Equazen have different formulations that reflect the changing requirements for essential fatty acids at different stages of development.

Research is showing that it is DHA rather than EPA that is required for the first two years of life, a period of rapid brain growth that requires structural fatty acids. This research shows that the ratio of the fatty acid combination needed for the baby's brain development in the womb and up to the age of two is different from that which is needed after this age. Previously, there was nothing on the market that would fit the necessary profile; mumomega™ reflects the correct ratio.

mumomega™ pregnancy is a must before pregnancy, during pregnancy and while mother is breast-feeding after pregnancy and also to ‘top-up’ essential fatty acid levels that have been depleted during pregnancy.

mumomega™ pregnancy is the main way to ensure that mother and baby will receive exceptionally pure DHA and AA throughout the birth cycle. Each 750mg capsule will deliver 300mg of DHA – the minimum benchmark daily amount recommended by the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids. www.issfal.org.uk. But an expectant mother can take up to 1 gram (3 capsules) a day easily, if she wants to make sure that she has an optimal level for her and her baby.

Typical Nutrition Information: mumomega™ pregnancy - per 750mg capsule:
Docosahexaenoic Acid ( DHA ) 300 mg
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 42 mg
Arachidonic Acid (AA) 84 mg
Docosapentaenoic Acid (DPA) 84 mg
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 15 mg
Vitamin E 2.8 mg (28% RDA)

eye q™ baby (6 months to 2 years) delivers the same ratio of fatty acids in simple Twist-Off capsules. All you have to do is break off the tip, and then squeeze the contents into any foodstuff, or drink. One capsule will provide 100mg of DHA – the daily amount as recommended by ISSFAL, for infants up to the age of 5 years. They are formulated to provide the correct balance of fatty acids for babies and infants aged from 6 months to 2 years of age.

Typical Nutrition Information: eye q™ baby - per 250mg capsule:
Docosahexaenoic Acid ( DHA ) 100 mg
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 14 mg
Arachidonic Acid (AA) 2.8 mg
Docosapentaenoic Acid (DPA) 2.8 mg
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 5 mg
Vitamin E 1.4 mg (14% RDA)

It can be seen that in both formulations natural vitamin E is included as an antioxidant to protect the fatty acids from possible attack by free radicals within the body. This is in a natural form, and so has greater bioavailability and effectiveness than synthetic alternatives.

eye q™ (age 3 to adult) is Equazen’s ‘flagship’ product. The formulation reflects the findings of research that omega-3 EPA is the more important fatty acid for daily brain function than DHA, and this is supported by giving the highest natural source of EPA possible. EPA supplementation is more beneficial for brain function i.e. when a child enters an age of socialisation (when attending nursery school) when development of vision, learning ability, memory and concentration become the most important factors.

The key point that sets eye q™ apart from other natural fish oils is its high ratio of EPA to DHA. Other natural-form marine fish oils on the market typically have a ratio of 3 parts EPA to 2 parts of DHA. However, DHA does not play the same role in brain function as EPA.

Its unique feature is a ratio of about 4 parts EPA to 1 part DHA: the highest ratio possible in a natural fish oil. This high EPA to DHA ratio is entirely natural and not as a result of industrial concentration processes that can leave chemical traces in the oil, strip out the other positive elements, and alter the fatty acid structure into a synthetic format that is not as bio-available. This is possibly the optimum ratio, allowing the EPA to work without interference, while still providing sufficient DHA to help maintain brain structure.

If you took 2 x 500mg eye q™ capsules you would consume:
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 186 mg
Docosahexaenoic Acid ( DHA ) 58 mg
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 20 mg

eye q™ chews are flavoured capsules with the same oil formulation as the standard eye q™ capsules. The strawberry flavouring is achieved without the use of such nasties as aspartame, saccharine and hydrogenated oils and so are ideal for infants and young children.

eye q™ smooth comes in a pack of 30 'stick-pack sachets' rather like a yoghurt consistency it can be taken directly or easily mixed with other foods of a similar constistency.

Each sachet delivers the following amount of fatty acids:
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 275 mg
Docosahexaenoic Acid ( DHA ) 100 mg
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 31 mg

Thus, just one sachet a day will address most fatty acid requirements: it is the equivalent of 3 x 500-mg eye q™ capsules.

The recommendations above revolve around pregnancy and support for young children.

After the age of 3 when the ratio of fatty acids needed changes from those that promote brain growth (structural) to ones that will provide better support for the development of brain function the formulation needs to reflect this changing need, eye q™ meets these needs with its higher EPA ratio.

Eye q™ capsules and its other packaged versions are ideal for general use for people of all ages wishing to ensure that their essential fatty acid levels are maintained.
